The ninth annual Petty Charity Golf Classic was held this past week (Oct 3-4, 2017), with all proceeds benefiting the Petty Family Foundation. The charity classic started at 6pm on Tuesday, at Petty’s Garage in Level Cross, NC. The evening included a dinner, a silent auction, and a live auction. The next morning, the golf classic began with a shotgun start at 10am. Participants and guests enjoyed lunch and other fun activities throughout the afternoon.
Our own TUC team of Chad and Tricia Ringer, Jarrett Waters, and Chuck and Annette Lee travelled to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Petty Charity Golf Classic to present a special TUC to the Petty Family Foundation. Over the past four months, Ring-Co worked with eight local and national companies to gather donations to grant this TUC to the Foundation.
In turn, the Petty Family Foundation gave the TUC to Aaron Claude, a disabled US Navy veteran, at their annual Petty Charity Golf Classic on October 3-4, 2017. The visiting Ring-Co team and Robert Satterwhite, of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, presented the TUC to Aaron.
Ring-Co is grateful for this opportunity to give back to a veteran, and realizes this gift could not have been possible without the support of each and every one of the donors. While in North Carolina, our TUC team was also able to tour Camp Victory Junction thanks to Mark Schumacher, Chief Development Officer. This special camp for children with serious medical conditions was formed in 2004 through the efforts of the Petty family and NASCAR community and fulfills the dream of driver Adam Petty, who passed tragically in a racing accident at the age of 19 . “What an amazing place,” commented Trish Ringer. “This camp makes an incredible difference in the lives of so many! Campers, their families, volunteers and staff seem overjoyed by the hope and sense of accomplishment this environment provides.”
About the TUC recipient
Aaron Claude served in the Navy. While on active duty one night, Aaron was picking up fellow sailors from shore leave when a random shooter opened fire in the establishment’s parking lot. This senseless event changed Aaron’s life forever. Although odds seemed stacked against him, Aaron recovered, but was left paralyzed from the waist down. Despite all of this, Aaron is known for his humble, positive nature. He lives in Virginia, where he enjoys hobbies like hunting and fishing.
About the Petty Family Foundation
The Petty name is deeply engrained in NASCAR history through the accomplishments of famed driver, Richard Petty. Off the track it also experienced achievement in the not-for-profit world. Since the Foundation was formed in 2008, it has worked relentlessly to fiscally support philanthropic organizations across the country, with the Foundation’s main focuses being children and soldiers. As a result, it has partnered with non-profits such as Camp Victory Junction and Paralyzed Veterans of America. The Petty Family Foundation aims to drive forward change that will result in long-lasting, positive impacts.
